A garda sustained a facial injury while on duty in Dundalk, Co Louth today.
The incident happened shortly after 5pm after gardaí were called to the Bakehouse Apartments in the town in relation to public order incidents.
It is understood a male garda in his 20s was struck close to his eye.
He was taken to Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Drogheda for treatment.
A man in his 50s was arrested in relation to the assault.
A second man was arrested for public order matters and he is being questioned at Dundalk Garda Station.
