One man dies and two injured after crash in Dundalk, Co Louth

A man in his 70s has died and two others have been injured following a road crash in Dundalk, Co Louth this afternoon.

The collision involving a van and a car happened on the Carrickmacross road at around 3pm.

The man in his 70s, who was the driver of the car, was pronounced dead at the scene. It is understood he was visiting from the UK.

A 15-year-old passenger in the car was airlifted to Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Drogheda.

His injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.

The driver of the van, a man in his 40s, was taken to Tallaght University Hospital and is understood to be in a serious condition.

Local traffic diversions are in place between Ballykelly and Essexford and are expected to last overnight.

Gardaí are appealing for witnesses to come forward and especially anyone with dashcam footage.
