Investigation after bone found on Co Louth beach

An investigation is under way after a human bone was discovered on a County Louth beach. 

The bone is believed to be a femur and was found in Baltray yesterday evening.

It is thought to have been in the water for a long time and, following the anthropological examination, is understood to be historical. 

It was removed from the scene and taken to Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Drogheda. 

A forensic anthropologist has carried out a formal examination of the bone, and gardaí are awaiting the results of this.
