Dundalk Institute of Technology has launched an investigation after the college became aware that an exam paper had been compromised.
The Head of School of Health and Science, Dr Edel Healy, said the paper was sat by final year students on 14 May 2019.
In a statement Dr Healy said as a result of this isolated incident students would be required to resit the examination on 24 May 2019 or at a later date.
She said DkIT had launched an "active investigation into the circumstances surrounding this issue."
"After careful consideration, this approach was deemed to be the most appropriate and fair course of action for our students, in line with DkIT's Assessments and Standards Policy.
"All students affected by this situation have now been contacted and reassured that any repeat exams if required after the August sitting will be scheduled prior to the completion of the Autumn Exam Board process. This will ensure that all successful students may be conferred in November as planned.
Dr Healy said that as part of the investigation, an extensive review of their examination processes and procedures would be carried out.
