Around 500 hundred people gathered in Drogheda in Co Louth today to protest against recent violence in the town.

The town's Mayor Frank Godfrey told the crowd that the recent attacks which have been associated with a drug feud do not reflect the people of Drogheda or their values.

He said Drogheda is still the town people across Ireland and the world experienced during last year's Fleadh and it will overcome the current violence.

Several local councillors and election candidates who also spoke referred to Fleadh Cheoil na hÉireann which will take place in Drogheda again this year.

They said the town will make a success of the event once again.
