Two men killed in Co Louth road crash

Two men have died following a road crash in Co Louth in the early hours of this morning.

The incident happened just outside Carlingford on the R173 Newry Road shortly after 12.30am.

It is understood one vehicle was involved.

It is believed gardaí had attempted to stop the vehicle prior to the collision. 

Both men, believed to be in their 20s, were pronounced dead at the scene.

The road has been closed and diversions are in place.

A spokesperson for the Garda Síochána Ombudsman Commission said the incident "is currently under examination by GSOC officials, who have visited the scene of the crash".

In a separate incident, a motorcyclist died in crash in Dublin this morning, while yesterday one man died and another 11 people were injured following a horrific crash in the midlands.

The crash happened on the M6 just after junction 5 eastbound near Kilbeggan.

Five cars were involved in the crash.

The man, who was in his 60s and was driving one of the cars, was pronounced dead at the scene.
