Four children were taken to hospital after a school bus was involved in a collision in Co Wicklow.

It is understood the bus, which was a 52-seater vehicle and was carrying 15 secondary school students collided with the back of van at just after 8am.

It is understood they received minor injuries.

The bus was operated by a private operator on hire to Bus Éireann.

The incident occurred at Barndarrig on the Marlton Road just off the N11 near the Beehive pub and restaurant, according to gardaí.

Bus Éireann said in a statement that four children were taken to hospital.

The statement said: "Bus Éireann are aware of an incident which took place at 8.10 this morning while travelling to Wicklow Post Primary Centre. The bus, operated by a private operator on hire to Bus Éireann collided with a van in Barndarrig, Co Wicklow.

"There were 15 pupils on-board at the time, emergency services attended the scene and four pupils were brought to hospital for further medical attention.

"We are currently investigating the matter with An Garda Síochána"

The Dominican College in Wicklow said that four of their students were on the bus and two were taken to hospital.
