Gardaí in Longford are appealing for witnesses in relation to a shooting incident where an official Garda firearm was discharged at Ferriskill, Granard on Monday 3 December.

Gardaí say they want to speak to anyone who was in the area of Ferriskill or perhaps was a road user at the time to contact them at Granard Garda station.

A man was injured and a dog died in the incident at a house between Edgeworthstown and Granard.

The man was treated in hospital for his injuries, which were described as not life-threatening.

Gardaí say they were at the scene as part of another investigation and were being assisted by a member of the public when they were confronted.
