Three people have been injured following a hit-and-run incident in Ardee, Co Louth in the early hours of this morning.

The incident happened at around 1.15am at Market Street in Ardee.

A 53-year-old man, as well as two women aged 20 and 21, were struck by the car - a silver Vauxhall Vectra - which mounted the footpath and failed to stop.

All three were taken to Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Drogheda and treated for various injuries, which are not believed to be life-threatening.

Gardaí said the car was later found crashed and abandoned a short distance away.
