A young man is in a serious condition following an alleged assault in Co Kildare in the early hours of last Wednesday morning.
Gardaí have issued an appeal for witnesses following the incident in which a woman also sustained minor injuries.
A 19-year-old man was getting into a taxi on Main Street, Rathangan at around 1.30pm which he was punched by another man, causing him to fall backwards onto the road.
He was taken to Naas General Hospital where he is described as being in a serious condition.
No arrests have been made.
Gardaí are appealing to anyone with information or who may have been on Main Street between 1am and 2am on 27 December to come forward.
They are also seeking any motorists or taxi drivers with dash cam footage to contact them at Kildare Garda Station on 045-527730, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111 or any Garda station.
