Gardaí in Callan, Co Kilkenny are investigating a series of break-ins and robberies at a soccer club.

Youths are being blamed for stealing an Irish tricolour flag from the clubhouse and defecating on it.

Callan United Football Club, which has received awards from the FAI, said it is working with gardaí to find out who is carrying out the robberies.

The first break-in took place a fortnight ago, with chairs being broken, windows smashed and walls destroyed.

Thieves broke in again two nights ago even though new locks had been fitted.
