Meath County Council has revealed plans for a €12 million rejuvenation of Navan town centre.
They include making the town centre more pedestrian friendly with walkways linking the historic and modern quarters as well as the retail and commercial sections with the cultural section.
The first phase of the council’s "Navan 2030 Plan", is "designed to meet the current and future needs of an expanding population while strengthening economic growth in the town, supporting business, retail and tourism".
Key elements of the plan include upgrading Market Square, Kennedy Plaza and the Fairgreen; new taxi-ranks; enhanced pedestrian and cyclist facilities and a bus terminus/park and ride on the north of the town.
Funding will come from Meath County Council and the National Transport Authority.
The plans go to a six-week public consultation, starting on 8 May and if approved works will begin early next year with completion due in 2020.
