Visiting restrictions have been imposed at the Midland Regional Hospital in Portlaoise following an outbreak of the winter vomiting bug.

The public are asked to avoid all non-essential patient visits in the coming days in order to contain the outbreak.

In particular, visitors are asked not to attend if they have had diarrhoea or vomiting in the past three days.

In a statement, hospital management said the restrictions will be reviewed on a daily basis.
