Thousands of homes were without power today and local roads were in dangerous conditions following heavy snow overnight.
Among the worst affected areas were Lismore in Co Waterford where 2,000 customers were without power and Ballyragget in Co Kilkenny, with approximately 1,600 homes with no electricity.
16,000 homes and businesses were without power this morning but the number dropped to around 6,000 by midday.
Counties Laois, Carlow, Kildare, Meath, Tipperary and Westmeath were affected.
Gardaí advised motorists to reduce speeds and take extra care while driving in the Stradbally and Abbeyleix area, where there were a number of incidents.

A status yellow snow and ice warning was lifted at 10am.
A 24-hour status yellow rainfall warning is in place until 7am tomorrow for counties Dublin, Louth and Wicklow.
