New figures from the Central Statistics Office show that 19,898 marriages were registered in Ireland last year, including 624 same-sex marriages.
This marked a 2.2% decrease from the 20,348 marriages recorded in 2024, while the figure is down 9.7% since 2015 when the number of marriages stood at 22,025.
The CSO said the marriage rate per 1,000 of population stood at 3.6 in 2025 and was 4.7 in 2015.
The average age for brides and grooms in opposite sex marriages was 36.1 years for brides and 38 years for grooms in 2025. This was up from 33.2 years for brides, and 35.3 years from grooms in 2015.
Meanwhile, the average age of males in same-sex marriages was 40.6 years, while the average age of females in same-sex marriages was 38.1 years.
Today's figures show that civil ceremonies and Roman Catholic marriage ceremonies were the most popular choice for opposite-sex couples accounting for 6,304 and 5,927 of the 19,274 ceremonies in 2025.
Friday was the most popular day to get married in 2025, while August was the most popular month.
