Sean Whelan has been announced as RTÉ's new London Correspondent.
Mr Whelan has spent the last four years holding the role of Washington Correspondent where he reported on the 2024 US presidential election, the legal cases against Donald Trump, the Uvalde school shooting, the Oscars, the tariff crisis and the Choctaw nation.
He previously held the London Correspondent post for three years, reporting on Brexit, the Covid pandemic and UK politics.
Prior to this, he was RTÉ's Economics Correspondent for nine years.
He joined the broadcaster in 1991 and worked as a radio reporter on Morning Ireland and as a reporter and presenter on This Week and World Report.
In 1994, he joined the foreign desk in TV news and reported on the war in Bosnia.
Later, as Deputy Foreign Editor, he reported from the war in Kosovo, the attempted impeachment of Bill Clinton in Washington, the return of Hong Kong to China and the election of 'New Labour' in the UK.
He then moved to Brussels where he spent a decade as Europe Editor, where he was involved in RTÉ's coverage of the Lisbon Treaty referendums.
Mr Whelan said: "I'm looking forward to returning to London at yet another pivotal moment for UK politics.
"Having been in Covid lockdown during most of my previous posting there, I'm also really looking forward to now being able to report on an even wider range of stories from all over Great Britain."
Mr Whelan will start his new role with immediate effect.
