An event to commemorate the 1916 Easter Rising has taken place in the Garden of Remembrance in Dublin this morning.
The ceremony was organised by the 1916 Relatives Association, the only non-State body granted permission to hold a commemoration in the Garden of Remembrance.
Minister for Justice Jim O'Callaghan attended the ceremony where he laid a wreath alongside Lord Mayor of Dublin Ray McAdam, the 1916 Relatives Association, the National President of ONE, the National Graves Association and other military veterans groups.
A Colour Party of Defence Forces Veterans in period uniform performed the military elements of the commemoration accompanied by a military piper.
A State ceremony to commemorate the 1916 Rising will be held outside the GPO tomorrow.
