A Status Yellow wind warning is in effect for counties Clare, Kerry, Limerick, Galway and Mayo until midnight.
Met Éireann said it will become increasingly windy with very strong and very gusty westerly winds.
The forecaster said this may result in some fallen trees and branches, difficult travelling conditions, large coastal waves and potentially damaging gusts of wind.
Meteorologist with Met Éireann Michelle Dillon said: "Winds will pick up this evening and early tonight with potential gusts of up to 110km per hour.
"Strong to gale force westerly winds will develop in those five counties which are under the Status Yellow wind warning.
"Winds will be strongest along coastal parts. It will be windy everywhere else and overnight and into tomorrow too."
Ms Dillon said it will also become increasingly cold this evening and tonight, with widespread showers, some of which will turn to hail, and overnight some showers will fall as sleet and even some snow will fall over higher ground.
Tomorrow will be cold, with frost and ice in places tomorrow night.
"There will be an added wind chill effect tomorrow with maximum temperatures ranging from 5 to 9 degrees and it will feel even colder than that, with fresh to strong north westerly winds.
"Winds and showers will ease later into the day tomorrow. Tomorrow night will be dry but cold with frost and ice," Ms Dillon said.
On Thursday, there will be a slight improvement in temperatures, with some rain also.
"There will be a little bit of a recovery in temperatures on Thursday. It will be mostly cloudy with a little rain and drizzle in the west and north-west.
"There will be mixed conditions with some rain and drizzle on Thursday night which will clear to the south-east early on Friday morning," she said.
Friday, will be a brighter day "with sunshine and a few scattered showers, especially further to the north and west, it will be a cool day but there will be some nice sunshine to compensate".
There will be "some nice spells of sunshine with some scattered showers" on Saturday, especially to the west and north and it will be "generally breezy", while Sunday will be a windier day "with rain spreading from the north-west, with blustery conditions in general", Ms Dillon said.
