A man in his 30s has been arrested and an area around the bus terminal at Liffey Valley Shopping Centre sealed off following a reported incident.
The man, who was discovered in an intoxicated state, is understood to have been in possession of suspicious devices, which are being examined.
Gardaí said they were alerted to an incident involving a "suspect device" at around 7.20pm.
The Defence Forces said it received a call for assistance from the gardaí shortly before 8.30pm following the discovery of a suspect device.
Bomb disposal experts from its Explosive Ordnance Disposal team carried out an assessment and the suspect device was deemed to be non-viable.
The scene was then handed back to the control of gardaí and the Defence Forces EOD operation has concluded.
Gardaí added that a cordon it had put in place around the area has since been lifted and the man was arrested under public order legislation.
The man is being held at a garda station in Dublin and investigations are under way.
Dublin Fire Brigade said in a statement on social media that traffic restrictions were in place around Liffey Valley near the bus terminal.
It added that firefighters and paramedics from Tallaght along with the fire brigade's Blanchardstown ambulance were responding to the incident.
The fire brigade also said a district officer from Dolphin's Barn and gardaí are also at the scene.
It is understood a number of other buses were moved away from the area.
The incident involved a Go-Ahead Ireland bus and the company said it was currently working with the emergency services to assist them with their ongoing investigation.
