Arrest after cyclist, 70s, killed in Dublin truck crash

A man has been arrested following the death of a cyclist in Dublin.

The cyclist, a man in his 70s, was killed following a crash involving a truck, which happened on Dublin St in Balbriggan at 12.40pm today.

He was pronounced dead at the scene.

A garda spokesperson said that a man in his 30s was arrested.

The Coroner has been notified and a postmortem examination will be arranged in due course.

The road remained closed off this evening as a technical examination took place.

The spokesperson said that local diversions are in place, and appealed for witnesses.

Anyone who may have information or dashcam footage from the Dublin Street area between 12pm and 1pm today is asked to contact investigators at Balbriggan Garda Station.

Appeal for witnesses after pedestrian seriously injured in Tipperary

Meanwhile, gardaí are appealing for witnesses after a male pedestrian in his 20s suffered serious injuries when hit by a car in Cashel, Co Tipperary last night.

Shortly after 11pm, Gardaí and emergency services responded to the incident on the Clonmel Road (R692) in Cashel.

The man in his 20s was conveyed to Cork University Hospital to be treated for serious injuries and no other injuries were reported at the time.

Gardaí are appealing to anyone who witnessed the incident to come forward and said that they are particularly interested in speaking with three drivers who passed by the pedestrian prior to the collision.

Road users who may have camera footage, including dash-cam footage who were travelling on the Clonmel Road (R692) in Cashel between 10.30pm and 11pm on Sunday 15h March are asked to contact Cahir Garda Station on 052 744 5630, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111, or any Garda Station.
