A number of ferry services between Dublin and Holyhead have been cancelled or delayed due to an issue with a vessel in the Welsh port.

Stena Line's Stena Adventurer ferry, which had been due to travel to Dublin from Holyhead at 10am this morning, "developed a technical issue", according to the company.

This led to the service being cancelled and passengers having to disembark, while there has been a knock-effect to other schedules as ferries have not been able berth at the port due to the Stena Adventurer taking up the space.

A spokesperson for Stena Line told RTÉ News that its 10.15am Dublin to Holyhead service has now been diverted to Birkenhead in Liverpool, and passengers will be provided with coaches from there.

Other Stena services between Holyhead and Dublin have also been affected, along with Irish Ferries services.

Four Irish Ferries services from Dublin have been delayed or cancelled, along with three services in the opposite direction.

Some Irish passengers said that they had boarded the Adventurer ahead of its scheduled 10am departure, only to be told to disembark due to the issue at 2.30pm.

They remain at the port awaiting to find out how and when they will be able to return home.

It also comes as many Welsh rugby fans had been due to return from Dublin following Friday’s Six Nations game, while some are also traveling to the Cheltenham Festival which begins on Tuesday.
