The Defence Forces has said that the Irish patrol vessel, LÉ Samuel Beckett, sustained "slight damage" while departing Sir John Rodgerson's Quay in Dublin this morning.
Video footage circulating online shows how the vessel hit the quay on the south side of the River Liffey.
In a statement, Óglaigh na hÉireann said that a survey of the damage was carried out following the incident and "it was assessed that the ship was in need of minor repairs".
It added that "once complete, the L.É. Samuel Beckett will recommence Maritime Defence Security Operation (MDSO) Patrols."
No timeframe was given for the repair work.

Earlier this week, Minister for Defence Helen McEntee was on the naval vessel at Sir John Rogerson's Quay as she launched Ireland's first National Maritime Security Strategy.
She stated that there was a huge need to increase focus on security and defence because of rising geopolitical tensions as well as the undersea cables in Ireland's waters.
