The iconic Aran jumper is being celebrated by An Post with the launch of a new stamp collection.

There are two designs - the N stamp for domestic post shows an Aran jumper mid-knit, with needles and wool. The W stamp for worldwide postage depicts a completed jumper, showcasing Irish craftsmanship.

The stamps were designed by illustrator Sally Caulwell and An Post said they mark the "endurance of the timeless jumper".

Stamp Design Manager with An Post, Aileen Mooney, said the new stamps symbolise Irish resilience, creativity and identity.

"The stamps came about as part of our Stamp for Ireland series, where we cover a stamp topic that is a symbol of Irishness, both in Ireland and around the world.

"Previously, we'd have done Irish breakfast or the weather, specifically the rain, and this time around, we're celebrating the Aran jumper which is such a part of the Irish identity.

"It's also something that is sustainable fashion, which is really popular and really important to Irish business," said Ms Mooney.

"The Aran jumper got its first big international outing in the 1950s when the Clancy brothers wore the knitwear on a trip to America.

"The jumper stayed in vogue with celebrities such as Marilyn Monroe and Elvis Presley, and, more recently, Taylor Swift [showcasing it].

"Ireland's Olympians also sported the jumper at the opening of the Winter Olympic Games in recent weeks," added Ms Mooney.
