It has rained every day so far in 2026 at the Valentia Observatory in Co Kerry, a continuous run of 46 days.
With a 'rain day' defined as days with measurable rainfall greater than 0.0mm, there was rainfall detected every day from 1 January to 15 February, with a total of 272.1mm over that period at the weather observing station.
Other stations have also seen notably long wet periods, though shorter than Valentia.
Johnstown Castle in Co Wexford recorded 27 consecutive wet days between 6 January and 1 February, with 234.4mm of rainfall.
January overall was the wettest since 2018 nationally and the 18th wettest on record.
February has also continued to be wetter than average.
Rainfall amounts at Dublin Airport have been exceptional.
The Dublin Airport station recorded 44mm of rainfall between 9am on 12 February and 9am on 13 February.
Provisionally, this is the highest daily February rainfall total recorded at Dublin Airport and the 20th highest daily total on record there (the highest daily total recorded was 73.9 mm on 11 June 1993).
Over the two-day period ending 9am on 13 February, Dublin Airport recorded 56.8 mm of rainfall, exceeding its February monthly average of 52.4 mm.
Furthermore, from 1 January to 13 February, Dublin Airport recorded more than 230 mm of rainfall, making it the wettest start to a year at that station in records stretching back to 1941.
