A teenage girl is in a critical condition after she and a teenage boy were struck by a car in Clara, Co Offaly.
The incident occurred on the Tullamore Road at around 6.15pm yesterday.
The girl was treated at the scene and later taken to CHI at Crumlin in Dublin.
The teenage boy was brought to Midland Regional Hospital in Tullamore, where his injuries are believed to be non-life threatening.
A man in his 40s was arrested at the scene and is being held at a garda station in Co Offaly.
Gardaí are appealing for witnesses, particularly any road users who were in the Tullamore Road, Frederick Street and Bridge Street areas of Clara, and who may have camera footage (including dash-cam), to contact Tullamore Garda Station on 057 9327600, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111, or any garda station.
