Gardaí investigating the deaths of a four-year-old boy and his grand-aunt in an arson attack in Co Offaly, have issued an appeal in relation to a car believed to have been used by those responsible.

Tadhg Farrell and 60-year-old Mary Hoult died in a fire at a house in Castleview Park in Edenderry, when a suspected petrol bomb was thrown through the front window on 6 December.

Tadhg's grandmother was also in the house at the time and is continuing to receive treatment in hospital for serious burn injuries.

Gardaí said that following the attack, two males left the scene in a Black Kia Rio, registration 08-D-24363.

The car was found burnt out at Tipper East in Naas, Co Kildare, the day after the attack.

The investigation team said previous registered owners of the vehicle are not involved in any way with the attack.
