A voluntary group in Conamara has said it hopes to rebuild a railway signal cabin, which was extensively damaged by an accidental fire at the weekend.
Two units of the County Galway Fire Service were dispatched to the Maam Cross station, after a timber part of the structure was engulfed by flames on Saturday.
There were no injuries, but the incident has left the refurbished building in need of major repair work.
The site had been renovated as part of an ongoing effort to restore a section of the Galway to Clifden rail line.
Connemara Railway Project Director Jim Deegan said the fire was a huge setback and estimated that it will cost in the region of €50,000 to carry out the necessary repair works.
The group intends to launch a fundraising campaign to raise the finance, to complete that task.

The signal cabin stands on the platform of the old Maam Cross station and was refurbished in recent years, with grant aid provided by Fáilte Ireland.
A 1km stretch of track, to allow visitors to experience rail travel through the area, opened during the summer.
Events for children visiting Santa had to be cancelled over the weekend as a result of the blaze.

Fire Service personnel from Clifden and An Cheathrú Rua attended the scene shortly after noon on Saturday, to bring the blaze under control.
Mr Deegan described the incident as "disastrous" but said all involved in the project were determined to ensure restoration work could commence as soon as possible.
