RTÉ executives appeared before the Oireachtas Media Committee today to update members on various matters, including the voluntary redundancy scheme.
The broadcaster has set a target to reduce its headcount by 400 over five years.
Politicians were also keen to discuss the outsourcing of programmes to the independent sector.
RTÉ's Director General Kevin Bakhurst confirmed that the Lotto programme would be outsourced and that feasibility studies were underway regarding the possible outsourcing of Fair City and The Late Late Show.
Hosts Fran McNulty and Barry Lenihan teased out the issues that the broadcaster is facing and whether the Director General’s response to questions about Ryan Tubridy could pave the way for his return.
Later, business reporter Adam Maguire examines the Netflix offer to buy Warner Brothers.
Streaming giant Netflix had seemingly emerged as the winner on Friday securing a $72bn equity deal for some of Warner Bros Discovery’s assets – before Paramount’s surprise $108.4bn bid.
Adam told Behind the Story any such deal with could mean some big changes.
But he said the long process may not be as simple as the new owner putting Warner Bros content on their platform.
"There is a question mark over what they do with the content," he said.
"Some suggest they’ll just pile it into Netflix; they might keep it separate as a premium product.
"So, you may end up having to still pay an add-on to get access to this," he explained.
Any deal would have to be cleared by competition authorities in the US and EU.
