The funeral has taken place of architect and RTÉ presenter Hugh Wallace at St Patrick's Cathedral in Dublin, where he was baptised as a child.
Mr Wallace passed away suddenly on Monday aged 68.
He was remembered not only for his work as a renowned architect, but also as someone who was knowledgeable, forthright, unafraid to speak plainly and never short of conviction.
The funeral service began with a recording of 'Somewhere over the Rainbow' sung by Judy Garland, one of Mr Wallace's favourite songs.
The service celebrated his life as someone who "shaped the spaces in which people lived their lives’’.
Mr Wallace’s friend John Waters delivered a unique address, embodying the voice of Mr Wallace, which ended with the architect's favourite Shakespearean quote: "a pop of colour will brighten your day."
Mr Wallace was best known as the presenter of RTÉ's Home of the Year TV programme.
Many of his friends and colleagues, including his co-presenter Amanda Bone and gardener Diarmuid Gavin, attended his funeral service.
Reverend William Morton said that as an architect, he valued structure, foundations, light and integrity, qualities that he also embodied in his personal life.
‘’More than that, he understood people, how they live, how they hope, how they dream, and how they contend fiercely for what they believe in.’’ Rev Morton said.
The congregation heard that Mr Wallace was due to move into his newly renovated home this weekend along with his husband Martin Corbett.
‘’Everyone who knew Hugh knows that his true home was found in his life with Martin. In shared work, shared laughter, shared dreams, and shared courage. Their new home held so much in store for them, yet the love that filled those plans does not vanish with death,’’ Rev Morton added.
Mr Wallace is survived by his husband Martin Corbett, his wider family, cherished and valued friends, colleagues and all who knew him.
