A man in his 50s has died following a road crash in Cork city yesterday afternoon.

The crash occurred at the Sarsfield Roundabout at Wilton shortly before 2pm.

The man, who was travelling alone, was taking to Cork University Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.

No other vehicles were involved.

The road was closed for a technical examination, but has since reopened.

Gardaí are appealing for any witnesses, particularly any road users who may have camera footage (including dash-cam), and who were in the area between 1pm and 2pm yesterday to contact Togher Garda Station on 021 4947120, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111, or any garda station.

The man's death brings to 167 the number of people who have died on Irish roads this year.
