The office of Ceann Comhairle, Verona Murphy, has requested that Sinn Féin take down a photograph which was posted today on social media, in which she appears with the party's politicians marking "International day for the elimination of violence against women".
In a statement tonight, the Ceann Comhairle's office said that Sinn Féin has "acceded to that request".
The statement said the office believed the photocall was cross-party and, on that basis, that the Ceann Comhairle was photographed.
It was a Sinn Féin event, in which the party's politicians wore orange to support the campaign, ahead of a Sinn Féin Private Members Bill: "Victims of Sexual Violence Civil Protections Orders Bill 2025."
The statement from the Ceann Comhairle’s office added: "To suggest that the Ceann Comhairle was photographed in support of a Sinn Féin bill is absolutely inaccurate and seriously misleading.
"In that regard, the Ceann Comhairle has made contact with Sinn Féin this evening regarding the use of the photo on social media in the context of supporting the Sinn Féin bill."
"The Ceann Comhairle’s participation in the photo call was not in anticipation of such use," the statement added.
"The Ceann Comhairle has asked Sinn Féin to remove the photo from its social media platforms and they acceded to that request."
