A man in his 60s has died following an incident at Tayto's site in Ashbourne, Co Meath site this morning.

Tayto Snacks Ltd confirmed that a "fatal incident" took place this morning and that it involved "an employee of an independent potato supplier".

The man was pronounced dead at the scene and his body was removed to Our Lady's Hospital Navan for a post-mortem examination.

Gardaí and emergency services attended the scene.

The Health and Safety Authority said it is aware of the fatal incident and has launched an investigation.

In a statement this afternoon, Tayto Snacks Ltd said: "It is with profound shock and sadness that Tayto Snacks Ltd. confirms that a fatal incident involving an employee of an independent potato supplier occurred at our Ashbourne, Co. Meath site this morning.

"We are assisting with their enquiries. We will also be working closely with all parties including the Health and Safety Authority."

The company added that the "safety and wellbeing of all who attend on our site is our highest priority", adding that it is "committed to supporting any investigations into today's tragic incident".

"Our thoughts are with their family, friends, and colleagues as they come to terms with this terrible loss," it added.

Managing Director John O’Connor said the company is devastated by the incident and its "thoughts and prayers are with the family, friends and colleagues impacted by this tragic loss of life".
