A member of An Garda Síochána, and five other non-gardaí have been released without charge in connection with an investigation into corruption, organised crime offences and the disappearance of a large quantity of drugs from a garda station last year.
The investigation began after gardaí in the eastern region seized over €100,000 worth of drugs and arrested a suspect.
However, when detectives went to put the exhibits to the suspect as part of the interview process, they discovered the drugs had gone missing.
Officers from the eastern region supported by An Garda Síochána's Anti-Corruption Unit commenced a criminal investigation and arrested the serving garda yesterday morning.
Five other people were also arrested by the Garda Drugs and Organised Crime Bureau.
The member of An Garda Síochána who was arrested in connection with the investigation yesterday has been released without charge.
Immediately upon release the individual was placed on suspension from duty.
The five other people, who are not members of An Garda Síochána, have all been released without charge.
A file will be prepared for the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions.
Investigations, which are being led by a Senior Investigating Officer from the Eastern Region, are continuing at this time.
