A 25-year-old man is still being questioned by gardaí in Cork in connection with the murder of a 59-year-old woman in the city.
Stella Gallagher died in a stabbing incident at Shrewsbury Downs in Ballinlough on Monday night.
Her 62-year-old husband, Brian, who was injured in the incident, remains in a stable condition in hospital.
Gardaí and emergency services were called to Shrewsbury Downs in Ballinlough, around 3km from Cork city centre, just after 9pm on Monday night.
Concerned neighbours raised the alarm after Ms Gallagher and her husband were seen running from their home onto the street.
Both were stabbed a number of times by a man who was pursuing them. They were seriously injured.
Paramedics worked on Ms Gallagher for almost an hour trying to save her life, before she was rushed to Cork University Hospital.
She was pronounced dead there before midnight yesterday.
Mr Gallagher underwent emergency surgery in Cork University Hospital on Monday night and is in a serious but stable condition.
The man, aged 25, was arrested at the scene and remains in a garda station in Cork city.
A murder investigation is currently under way.
