A woman in her 70s has died after getting into difficulty in the sea in Co Wicklow yesterday afternoon.
The Coast Guard said it responded to calls to help two people who were in the water at Magherabeg beach at around 2pm in an operation which involved the Greystones and Wicklow Coast Guard units, the Dublin-based Coast Guard helicopter R116 and the Wicklow all-weather life boat.
Gardaí said the body of the woman was recovered from the water at around 4pm while the other person was taken to hospital.
They said the woman's body was removed to the mortuary in St Columcille's Hospital in Loughlinstown, Co Dublin, where a post-mortem examination will take place in due course.
A file will be prepared for the Coroner's Court.
