President Catherine Connolly is back in Galway this evening for the last engagement of her first full day in office.
She arrived at Merlin Park Community Nursing Unit a short time ago, where she was greeted by staff at the facility.
The President is meeting residents who live in the unit.
She was warmly received on her arrival, with a round of applause, on what is her first visit back to her home town since she took the oath of office at the start of her seven-year term yesterday.
Earlier, President Connolly urged schoolchildren to continue learning Irish during a visit to a gaelscoil.
The President visited Gaelscoil Inse Chór in Dublin 8, where she met primary school children.
She declared: "Níl aon obair bhaile agaibh anocht" - no homework tonight.
The tenth President also demonstrated her keepie uppie skills while meeting children from the camogie and chess teams.
During a short speech, she spoke again of how the Irish language is a gift and "súil eile ar an domhain".
The President and her husband Brian McEnery were also due to visit the Trim family resource centre, which she visited during the election campaign.
Following that, the President set off for Merlin Park Community Nursing Unit 5 and 6 in her home county of Galway.
President Connolly was inaugurated as Ireland's tenth president at a ceremony in Dublin Castle yesterday.
Her first official engagement was a lunch at Áras an Uachtaráin followed by a State reception last night that was held in her honour.
Gaelscoil Inse Chór príomhoide Colm Ó Nualláin said the pupils were very excited that the new President is visiting their school.
Speaking on RTÉ's Liveline yesterday afternoon, he said: "We are over the moon", and everyone is working very hard to get the school ready for the visit of Uachtaráin Connolly.

Mr Ó Nuallain said he received a call on Monday about the visit and "we dropped everything".
He said it was very clear from the call that the people she wanted to meet most was páistí Gaelscoil Inse Chor, "so we announced the news immediately to the children and they broke out in spontaneous applause and there was even a few tears".
