Broadcaster Ivan Yates will no longer present a political podcast with Matt Cooper after it emerged that Mr Yates had not disclosed his work advising Fianna Fáil during the Presidential Election.

The Path to Power podcast has been co-presented by the pair for the past two years and is produced by media agent Noel Kelly's NK Productions.

In a joint statement, Mr Cooper and NK Productions said they had ended the partnership with Mr Yates after it emerged that he had worked on debate preparation for Fianna Fáil candidate Jim Gavin.

The statement says: "Neither Matt Cooper nor NK Productions were aware that Ivan was working on the campaign, and both believe that this information should have been shared with the audience of the podcast when the Presidential election was being discussed."

Mr Cooper said: "While we have always been aware of Ivan’s commercial activities, his decision not to advise us that he was actively engaged in the Presidential election on behalf of one of the parties is disappointing.

"Had he shared that information with us, we would have made sure that our audience was aware of the matter when we were discussing the election."

Mr Cooper also confirmed that his co-host had recently advised the podcast team that he wished to leave the production in the new year.

Mr Yates has been contacted for comment.

Earlier today, the Irish Independent reported that Mr Yates had been engaged to provide some advice to Fianna Fáil candidate Jim Gavin during the Presidential campaign.
