Man, 80s, dies after being struck by car in Co Galway

A man in his 80s has died after he was struck by a car on the N83 in Co Galway last night.

The incident occurred at around 11.30pm on the Tuam Road at Peake in Loughgeorge.

The pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene and his body was later removed to University Hospital Galway, where a post-mortem examination will be carried out.

The driver of the car, a man in his 20s, was brought to hospital for a medical assessment.

The road is closed for a technical examination and diversions are in place.

Gardaí are appealing to any witnesses, particularly any road users who may have camera footage (including dash-cam) and who were travelling in the area at the time, to contact Galway Garda Station on 091 538000, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111, or any garda station.
