The President of the High Court has granted an application on behalf of the Child and Family Agency Tusla for further orders relating to the care and protection of a child described as very vulnerable.

Mr Justice David Barniville has made a number of orders in the last week to secure the protection of the minor, under the court's minor wardship jurisdiction, and had adjourned proceedings until today.

The court directed that the hearings be in private but has allowed limited details to be reported following an application by the media on behalf of RTÉ, the Irish Times and Mediahuis, the publishers of the Irish Independent.

The application today was the subject of a hearing involving Tusla, the HSE, the child's mother and father, as well as the child's Guardian Ad Litem.

A further application was made on behalf of the media organisations to lift or ease the reporting restrictions in this case, but Mr Justice Barniville ruled that the restrictions should stay in place because of a real risk that the very vulnerable minor might be identified.

The judge added that the restrictions would be kept under close review.

The case is due back before the court in a month.
