A man in his 40s was found unresponsive inside the property and was later pronounced dead.
Gardaí say the Coroner was then notified and the Garda Technical Bureau and Office of the State Pathologist were called to assist in the investigation.
The woman, who is understood to be known to the man, was arrested in connection with the fatal assault.
She is being detained at a garda station in Tipperary.
Gardaí were seen making door to door enquiries around the vicinity of Castle Street this morning.
After a forensic examination was carried out, the man's body was taken from the scene at around 1.30pm yesterday afternoon for a post-mortem examination.
Gardaí are appealing for anyone with information relating to the incident to contact Clonmel Garda Station on 052 617 7640, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111 or any garda station.
