Watch: Sabina Higgins looks forward to life after Áras

Sabina Higgins, the wife of President Michael D Higgins, has said she is "so looking forward" to returning home to Co Galway when his term ends.

On this evening's Nationwide, Ms Higgins tells presenter Bláthnaid Ní Chofaigh that the president's two terms have been "non-stop, kind of 24 hours a day, 365 days a year".

President Higgins has previously indicated that the couple intend to live in Rahoon, Co Galway, after they bid farewell to Áras an Uachtaráin.

"I will be looking up at beautiful western sunsets and I will not have a bother in the world!" Ms Higgins tells the programme.

This evening's Nationwide goes behind the scenes at the last season of garden parties of the Michael D Higgins' presidency.

Sabina Higgins describes the team effort that makes the experience for the guests so special.

"The presidency is the thing and everyone here - they are all there to support the presidency. It is hugely important, and it is celebratory. What is the magic thing about it is, we are here for 14 years and in 14 years every garden party has been a beautiful sunny day. And the letters that come in from people, it means so much to them.

"But always magic, magical, is how they describe it."
