Adult education teachers plan to march to the Department of Further and Higher Education this morning to highlight job losses in the sector.
The Adult Education Teachers Organisation says that people in their first three years of employment have been laid off over the summer, as were other workers who lost their jobs in September of last year.
After three years of employment workers gain rights that makes their jobs more secure.
The organisation says that all over the country teachers working in adult education have been told they have no jobs to return to in September.
It is demanding that Minister James Lawless takes action to protect what it says is "possibly hundreds of workers threatened with redundancy".
The group said the protest - which is due to take place at 11.30am - was about the immediate issue of job losses but also about underfunding, and precarious employment. It said the job cuts would also affect learners whose classes will be cut.
Adult education is provided via the country's Education and Training Boards.
ETB Ireland said: "ETB Further Education and Training staff are employed on a range of different contractual arrangements including fixed term contracts.
"All staff within an ETB, in respect of their contracts and hours, are managed within the parameters of employment law including the Fixed Term Workers Act 2003."
