Fiosrú investigation after man seriously injured in Dublin

An incident in which a 51-year-old man was seriously injured in Dublin has been referred to the Office of the Police Ombudsman.

Fiosrú is appealing for witnesses after the incident, which happened following an interaction involving gardaí near the Holiday Inn on O’Connell Street in the early hours of last Friday.

The body’s on-call team of investigators attended the scene, while a spokesperson said that it will engage with the family concerned.

The referral to Fiosrú, formerly known as the Garda Síochána Ombudsman Commission (GSOC), was made by gardaí.

An independent investigation will now take place, with a dedicated officer assigned to the case.

Anyone who may have information, or has dashcam footage from O’Connell St around 4.15am on Friday, is asked to contact the body on 0818 600 800 or by emailing info@fiosrú.ie.

A spokesperson said: "Fiosrú would like to hear from anyone who was in the vicinity of the Holiday Inn, O’Connell Street, Dublin 1, D01 T2X2 at approximately 4.15am on Friday, 15 August 2025, or any passing vehicles, including taxis that may have dashcam footage from that location and /or on a mobile device."
