Arrest as man left 'critical' following Mayo collision

A man in his 60s was arrested following a collision in Mayo that left another man in critical condition.

The collision, involving a car and a motorcycle, occurred on the Castlebar Road, in Newport at 4.50pm yesterday.

The motorcyclist, a man aged in his 50s, was discovered with serious injuries at the scene.

He received medical treatment and was brought to Mayo University Hospital, where he remains in a critical condition.

A man aged in his 60s was later arrested in connection with the investigation.

Gardaí said they are now appealing for any witnesses to the collision to come forward.

Any road users who may have camera or dash-cam footage who were travelling in the area of Castlebar Road, Newport between 4pm and 5pm yesterday are asked to make the footage available to gardaí.
