Power has been restored to the majority of the 10,000 homes and businesses that were impacted by Storm Floris yesterday.

ESB Networks said there were around 270 customers still without power this morning.

Met Éireann said median wind speeds at the height of yesterday's storm reached between 60km/h and 70km/h, while wind speeds of 90km/h were recorded in Ceann Mhása in Galway.

In Northern Ireland several flights were cancelled, some public facilities closed and a small number of homes were without power.

Dublin Airport said flight operations continued as normal but Emerald Airlines had cancelled six flights.

Senior Forecaster with Met Éireann Gerry Murphy said the storm has been "basically what we've expected within a Yellow level warning range".

Speaking on RTÉ's Morning Ireland, he said the winds overnight would have caused issues at campsites and festivals given the Bank Holiday weekend, but "in the broader scheme of things it's still a relatively small weather event".

He added: "The main issue with this particular weather event is really the time of year and the weekend that it's occurring. So in terms of its potential impacts it had a greater weight than a wet, windy day perhaps in a non-bank holiday weekend or a non-tourist time of the year."

The "explosive cyclogenesis" event, or weather bomb, has caused slight disruption, with a number of fallen trees reported across affected counties.
