National Day of Commemoration ceremonies were held at several locations across the country this morning.
The events honoured all Irish men and Irish women who died in wars or on service with the United Nations and other international organisations in the service of peace.
A commemoration ceremony at Dublin's Royal Hospital Kilmainham was attended by President Michael D Higgins, Taoiseach Micheál Martin, Tánaiste Simon Harris and other members of the Government and Council of State.
They were joined by members of the Diplomatic Corps, Defence Forces, veterans' organisations, the judiciary and representatives from Northern Ireland.
Relatives of those who died in past wars or on UN service alongside relatives of the 1916 leaders also attended.
The ceremony included a wreath-laying by President Higgins on behalf of the people of Ireland and ended with a fly-past by the Air Corps.
Ceremonies took place at other locations around the country, including at Fitzgerald's Park in Cork city, the University of Galway, Kilkenny Castle, the grounds of Limerick City and County Council and at the John Condon Memorial in Waterford city.
A ceremony at City Hall in Sligo town was due to take place this afternoon too.
