Gardaí have renewed their appeal for information into the murder of 27-year-old Antoinette Smith, whose remains were found nearly four decades ago in Co Wicklow

Ms Smith's remains were discovered on Glendoo Mountain, near the Lemass monument close to Glencree/Enniskerry on 3 April 1988.

On 11 July 1987, Ms Smith and a friend attended a David Bowie concert in Slane, Co Meath.

They returned to Dublin by bus and arrived in Parnell Square at about 11pm before going to the La Mirage Discotheque on Parnell Street.

They met two men that they knew in the club and stayed with them until they all left shortly after 2am.

After they exited the club, Ms Smith’s friend left, but she herself remained speaking with the two men until they walked to a taxi rank on O’Connell Street.

The men got a taxi to the Ballymun area, while Ms Smith continued to walk past the Gresham Hotel towards O’Connell Street Bridge.

She was later reported missing by her husband to gardaí. Her remains were discovered nine months later.

Ms Smith’s children, Lisa and Rachel, were seven and four at the time of her disappearance.

Speaking to RTÉ, Lisa said she particularly missed her mother on special days growing up, like graduations, winning awards, or going to gigs.

"Like getting to go to your first gig, because my mam was a big music fan and so am I, I never got to do that with her.

"Or graduating from school, or getting awards, or watching sports. I was always aware that I was the one with the missing parent.

"From my memory of her she was a typical mam, her friends have told us she had a great personality and was the life and soul of the party."

Lisa Smith also said she thinks about her mother when she hears of other attacks happening.

"A young woman went to a concert at 27, and couldn’t come home to her children.

"That’s harrowing, and to think that 38 years later it’s no more safer for women than it was back then.

"There was no internet, no phones, but it seems like a lifetime ago, and it’s not changed very much for women because women are not safe."

She said she’s "100%" sure that there are people out there who know what happened to Antoinette.

"We’re firm believers that somebody knows something. Relationships change, people move on, people pass away.

"Someone definitely knows something, and they definitely told their secret to someone.

"Come forward, give us some peace, and let my mother rest."
