Sinn Féin leader Mary Lou McDonald questioned Public Expenditure Minister Jack Chambers over third-level student fees and wanted clarity on how much parents would have to pay in September.

On Sunday, Minister for Further and Higher Education James Lawless said that "as things stand" students will have to pay an extra €1,000 in fees this year compared to last year as the cost of living support was no longer available.

Meanwhile in the UK, Chancellor Rachel Reeves appeared visibly upset in the House of Commons as pressure came on Prime Minister Keir Starmer over the watered down cuts in their Welfare Bill.

Mr Starmer's press secretary later told reporters: "The chancellor is going nowhere, she has the prime minister's full backing." But how safe is her job?
