Significant fall in burglaries, kidnapping and homicides - CSO

There has been a significant decrease in burglaries, robberies, kidnapping and homicides according to the latest CSO crime figures.

Homicide and related offences were down 34% in the 12-month period up to March of this year when compared to the same period last year.

Robbery was down 12%, while burglary and related offences dropped 6%. Theft and drugs offences were also down.

There were however increases in reported sex offences, up 15%, as well as in public order offences, attempted murder, weapons and explosive offences.

The number of women recorded as victims of crime increased by 1%, while the number of male crime victims dropped by 3%.
