Tina Satchwell was 'a kind, loving, gentle soul' - family

The family of Tina Satchwell have described her as a "kind, loving, gentle soul".

Speaking outside court, after the jury in the trial of Richard Satchwell returned its guilty verdict, Ms Satchwell's family said she had been portrayed during the trial in a way that was not true to who she was.

After a trial lasting just over four weeks, the jury at the Central Criminal Court took almost nine-and-a-half hours to find 58-year-old Richard Satchwell guilty of murder at their home in Youghal, Co Cork, in 2017.

Satchwell will be sentenced to the mandatory sentence of life in prison next Wednesday when victim impact evidence will be heard.

Sarah Howard, Tina Satchwell’s niece, said Ms Satchwell was their precious sister, cousin, auntie and daughter.

She said her presence in their life meant so much to them all and that they could never put into words the impact her loss had on them all.

She said Ms Satchwell was a kind, loving, gentle soul, who loved her animals like they loved her. She said that was the way they wanted her to be remembered.

Ms Howard said the family finally had justice for Tina and she asked for privacy to begin their healing.

Ms Satchwell’s sister Lorraine Howard thanked Sarah for giving evidence during the trial just two weeks after giving birth to a baby girl.

She said she had done herself and Tina proud.

Ms Howard went on to thank the prosecution legal team, the judge and the investigating gardaí, particularly Superintendent Anne Marie Twomey and Detective Garda Dave Kelleher, who she said had put the pieces together and found Tina.
